Surely many times, when starting a new project, you’ve come across these kinds of increases in a pattern. They are very easy and quick to do, but in case you’re overcomplicating things, and you’re not sure which is which, we have created a post to explain them to you. You know we love making things easier for you.

For this post we used one of our Merifine skeins and size US 8 (5 mm) beechwood knitting needles.

Let’s begin!

Increase 1 stitch (Make 1)

When you must increase 1 stitch, take the strand in between 2 stitches, place it on the left-hand needle, twist it, and knit it or purl it, as indicated in the pattern. In the following video you will see how to work the increase step by step:

Make 1 right

To make 1 right insert the left-hand needle from back to front, under the horizontal strand joining the stitches in between both needles, and place it on the left-hand needle as if it was one stitch. Knit the strand.

For this kind of increase we also prepared a short video where you will be able to see how to work this kind of increase:

Make 1 left

To make 1 left insert the left-hand needle from front to back, under the horizontal strand joining the stitches in between both needles, and place it on the left-hand needle as if it was one stitch. Knit the strand through the back loop.

That’s it! Now you know three different kinds of increases, which will be very useful in your next projects. We are always happy to see what comes out of your knitting needles in social media with the hashtag #weareknitters 😉
