Today is October 31st. And you will probably ask, so what? Today starts MOVEMBER’s time! Now your question will probably be: and what’s MOVEMBER?
MOVEMBER is a social movement that started some years ago in Australia. Two guys were having fun and decided they would let their mustaches grow. The following year, the father of one of them was diagnosed as having prostatic cancer. What they decided to do back then is what today millions of people: they decided to let their mustaches grow just during one month in order to acknowledge the type of cancer. That’s where its name comes from: November + Mustache = MOVEMBER.
Nowadays is not very common to see boys or men wearing a mustache (well, it depends on the city you live, of course). If you let your mustache grow, people would probably ask you why did you do it. Then you would explain to them the meaning behind it and at the same time you would be increasing people’s awareness about prostatic cancer. It is a win-win situation!
We were introduced to Movember in our last visit to Berlin, and from the first minute we fell in love with everything they do, and more importantly, the reason why they do it.
It started in Australia, but soon it became something popular in other countries like Canada, USA, UK, Germany, etc. All you need to do is to shave completely today, register in movember.com, choose your country and join group (or create one)! Your mustache will grow during this month while you can post photos of yourself showing proudly your ‘mo’!
This is a movement clearly focused on men, but if you are a girl or a woman you can join them as well! You can also get your boyfriend, brother, father, friend into it! Come on, join Movember!
It has been all about ‘Girl Power’ since the late 90’s, but what about ‘Man Power’? Or should we say…’MO POWER’?

Hoy es 31 de octubre. Os preguntareis, ¿y qué? ¡Hoy empieza MOVEMBER! Ahora seguramente vuestra pregunta sea: ¿y qué es MOVEMBER?
MOVEMBER es un movimiento social que comenzó hace unos años es Australia. Una noche de juerga dos amigos decidieron dejarse bigote por hacer la gracia. Un año después, el padre de uno de ellos fue diagnosticado con cáncer de próstata. Lo que estos dos chicos decidieron hacer entonces es lo que hoy hacen millones de personas: se dejaron crecer el bigote durante el mes de noviembre para concienciar a su entorno con este tipo de cáncer. De ahí viene su nombre: November (noviembre en inglés) + Mustache (bigote en inglés) = MOVEMBER
Hoy en día no es muy común ver a chicos llevar bigote (depende de la ciudad en la que vivas, claro). Si dejaras crecer tu bigote lo más probable es que todo tu entorno te pregunte por qué lo has hecho. Entonces tú les explicarías la historia que hay detrás, aumentando al mismo tiempo la concienciación de estas personas con el cáncer de próstata. ¡Todos ganaríamos con esto!
Nosotros conocimos MOVEMBER en nuestra última visita a Berlín. Desde el minuto 1 nos encantó todo lo que hacen y, sobre todo, la razón por la que lo hacen.
Este movimiento se inició en Australia, aunque rápidamente se convirtió en algo popular en países como Estados Unidos, Canadá, Reino Unido, Alemania, etc. Todo lo que tienes que hacer es afeitarte completamente hoy, registrarte en movember.com, escoger tu país y unirte a un grupo. Tu bigote crecerá durante este mes y podrás enseñar orgulloso fotos de tu ‘mo’.
Aunque este movimiento está claramente dirigido a los hombres, si eres una chica o mujer también puedes unirte. Puedes contárselo a tu novio, hermano, padre, amigo, etc. y que se unan también al movimiento MOVEMBER!
Desde hace mucho sólo se habla del ‘Girl Power’, pero ¿y que pasa con el ‘Man Power’? O mejor dicho, ¿qué pasa con el ‘Mo Power’?
