The crochet stitch we are going to show you this week will get you hooked instantly, and once you’ve gotten the hang of it you will be able to crochet it with your eyes closed.
It is the Filet Squares in crochet, one of the most suitable beginner techniques because it only requires double crochets.
The number of stitches has to be a multiple of 12 + 1 (add another 2 stitches for the chain at the beginning).
Row 1: crochet a double crochet into the fourth chain counting from the crochet hook, then crochet a double crochet into each of the following five stitches, *crochet a chain, skip the next stitch, crochet a double crochet into the next stitch*, repeat from * to * three times, *crochet a double crochet into each of the next 6 stitches, [crochet a chain, skip the next stitch, crochet a double crochet into the next stitch] repeat the instructions in [ ] three times*, repeat from * to * until you have completed the row. Turn the project around.
Row 2: crochet 4 chains, skip the first double crochet, *crochet a double crochet into the next stitch (over the double crochet of the previous row), crochet a chain, skip the next stitch, crochet a double crochet into the next stitch (over the double crochet of the previous row)*, repeat from * to * two times.
Crochet a double crochet into each of the next 6 stitches, *[crochet a chain, skip the next stitch, crochet a double crochet into the next stitch] repeat the instructions in [ ] three times, crochet a double crochet into each of the next 6 stitches*, repeat from * to * until you have completed the row, finish with a chain over the last chain of the previous row. Turn the project around.
Row 3: crochet 3 chains, skip the first double crochet, *crochet a double crochet into each of the next 6 stitches, [crochet a chain, skip the next stitch, crochet a double crochet into the next stitch] repeat the instructions in [ ] three times*, repeat from * to * until you have completed the row, finish with a double crochet in the last chain of the previous row. Turn the project around.
Row 4: crochet 3 chains, skip the first double crochet, *[crochet a double crochet into the next stitch] repeat the instructions in [ ] six times, [crochet a chain, skip the next stitch, crochet a double crochet into the next stitch] repeat the instructions in [ ] three times*, repeat from * to * until you have completed the row, finish with a double crochet in the last chain of the previous row. Turn the project around.
Row 5: like row 2.
Row 6: like row 3.
Row 7: like row 4.
Repeat rows 2 to 7 until it has the desired length.
