Hi knitters!

Today we are going to learn how to knit diagonal stairs.

This new technique provides relief and volume to your WAK designs and looks really beautiful. You can knit it on all your garments and accessories.

We recommend this technique for big projects like a blanket. It’s important to check if the technique has a good texture to start knitting properly. This fact is very important if you want to get a good relief!

Even if the stitch sample seems to be difficult, you will enjoy the technique.

Cast on a multiple of 8 stitches and let’s start!

Row 1: knit 1 stitch, purl 1 stitch, knit 1 stitch and purl 5 stitches. Repeat these steps until you finish the row.

Row 2 and all the even rows: knit all the stitches as they come which means, knit the knitted ones and purl the purled ones.

Row 3: knit 1 stitch and purl 1 stitch. (*knit 5 stitches, purl 1 stitch, knit 1 stitch and purl 1 stitch) Repeat this scheme (*) until you have 6 stitches left, knit 5 stitches and purl the last one.

Row 5: knit 1 stitch, (*purl 5 stitches, knit 1 stitch, purl 1 stitch and knit 1 stitch) Repeat this scheme (*) until you have 7 stitches left, purl 5 stitches, knit 1 stitch and purl the last one.

Row 7: knit 5 stitches, purl 1 stitch, knit 1 stitch, and purl 1 stitch. Repeat these steps until you finish the row.

Row 9: purl 4 stitches, (*knit 1 stitch, purl 1 stitch, knit 1 stitch and purl 5 stitches). Repeat this scheme (*) until you have 4 stitches left, knit 1 stitch, purl 1 stitch, knit one more and purl the last stitch.

Row 11: knit 3 stitches, (*purl 1 stitch, knit 1 stitch, purl 1 stitch and knit 5 stitches). Repeat this scheme (*) until you have 5 stitches left, purl 1 stitch, knit 1 stitch, purl 1 stitch and knit the last 2 stitches.

Row 13: purl 2 stitches, (* knit 1 stitch, purl 1 stitch, knit 1 stitch and purl 5 stitches). Repeat this scheme (*) until you have 6 stitches left, knit 1 stitch, purl 1 stitch, knit 1 stitch and purl the last 3 stitches.

You need to repeat this scheme with its 16 rows in order to create this technique. It’s going to look like real diagonal stairs on your WAK garments and accessorizes. Have a look on our website and wool catalogue and choose your colors to create nice ‘stairs’ with relief.

For this post we have used 15mm beechwood needles and a 100% Peruvian wool yarn ball in lead.
