Hi knitters!!

Today we are going to show you how to knit a very important technique. This technique is the SSK or ‘slip-slip-knit’ and of course the double version of the SSK.

The SSK is always used to decrease stitches and is a ‘must learn’ for knitters. You can knit different shapes and laces. You can also learn how to make a SSK on our post ‘How to knit leaves in lace stitch’.

SSK (the simple); you will use 1 stitch to decrease and work with 2 stitches.

Start knitting as always until you get to the first decrease…
1. Slip 1 stitch onto your right WAK needle.

2. Knit the next stitch

Simple SSK
3. Slide the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch.

Now you have the first SSK and your first decrease.

Now we are going to knit the double SSK, which is SSSK.

Start knitting as always until you get to the first decrease…
1. Slip 1 stitch onto your right WAK needle.

2. Knit 2 stitches together.

3. Slide the first slipped stitch over the 2 knitted stitches.

Now you have decreased 2 stitches!

You can knit a SSK or a SSSK on several WAK projects. Show us your decreases on Instagram with the hashtag #weareknitters. 🙂

For this post we have used 5mm beechwood needles and a cotton yarn ball in fuchsia.

    1. Hello Gail!

The technique is a little different, but the end result will give you the same look!
