Who said that lacy stitches are only for summer? In this post we are going to show you how to knit the hexagon lace stitch with Meriwool, so that your garments are warm but still have that special touch that only lace can give.
For this tutorial we used our size 11 (8 mm) wooden needles and a skein of our fine wool Meriwool.
Before beginning you should know how to do the following techniques:
- Cast on
- Purl
- Knit two together
- Purl two together through the back loop
- SKPO Slip, knit, pass slipped stitch over
- Slip a stitch
- Yarn over
Let’s get started!
To knit this stitch you will need to cast on a multiple of 8 stitches + 1 extra stitch.
Row 1 (right side): knit 1, * purl 1, knit 5, purl 1, knit 1*. Repeat from * to * until the end of the row.
Row 2 (wrong side): purl 1, * knit 1, purl 5, knit 1, purl 1*. Repeat from * to * until the end of the row.
Repeat rows 1 and 2 again.
Row 5 (right side): knit 1, * yarn over, 1 SKPO, knit 3, knit 2 together, yarn over, knit 1 *. Repeat from * to * until the end of the row.

Row 8 (wrong side): purl 1, * purl 2, knit 1, purl 1, knit 1, purl 3*. Repeat from * to * until the end of the row.
Row 9 (right side): knit 1, * knit 2, purl 1, knit 1, purl 1, knit 3*.
Repeat rows 8 and 9 until you reach row 12.
Row 13 (right side): knit 1, * knit 1, knit 2 together, yarn over, knit 1, yarn over, 1 SKPO, knit 2*. Repeat from * to * until the end of the row.
Row 14 (wrong side): purl 1, * purl 2 together through the back loop, yarn over, purl 3, yarn over, purl 2 together, purl 1*. Repeat from * to * until the end of the row.
Row 15 (right side): knit 2 together, yarn over, knit 5. *Yarn over. Slip 2 stitches, knitwise, from the left-hand needle to the right-hand needle, knit 1, pass the 2 slipped stitches over the last stitch knitted. Yarn over, knit 5*. Repeat from * to * until there are 2 stitches left. Yarn over, SKPO.
