Sometimes when we are planning our next knitting project, we don’t want to use very elaborate stitches and choose to use simple, but effective stitch combinations. In this tutorial we show you step-by-step how to knit the Seersucker stitch to create a textured diamonds, a great option for those who love easy to knit minimalist stitches.

For this tutorial we used a pair of US size 11 needles and a skein of our fine wool The Meriwool.

Before beginning you should review the following techniques that we will be using:

You will need to cast on a multiple of 4 stitches to knit this stitch. Let’s get started!

Row 1 (right side):  * knit 1, purl 1 *. Repeat from * to * until the end of the row.

Row 2 (wrong side):  * knit 1, purl 1 *. Repeat from * to * until the end of the row.

Row 3 (right side): * purl 1, knit 3 *. Repeat from * to * until the end of the row.

Row 4 (wrong side):  * purl 3, knit 1 *. Repeat from * to * until the end of the row.

Row 5 (right side): * knit 1, purl 1 *. Repeat from * to * until the end of the row.

Row 6 (wrong side): * knit 1, purl 1 *. Repeat from * to * until the end of the row.

Row 7 (right side): knit 2. Then * purl 1, knit 3 *. Repeat from * to * until there are only 2 stitches left on the left-hand needle. Purl 1, knit 1.

Row 8 (wrong side): purl 1. Then * knit 1, purl 3 *. Repeat from * to * until there are only 3 stitches left on the left-hand needle. Knit 1, purl 2.

To continue knitting this stitch you just have to keep repeating rows 1 to 8.
