Hi knitters! Today in our Knitters Series we would like to introduce you to Ana, a knitter from Zarautz (Guipúzcoa, Spain). She is a great fan of WAK and has improve her knitting skills in a short time since she started with the WAK wool balls and needles. The great thing about this story is that before the last six months, she didn’t know anything about knitting and design. Nowadays, she has no fear and likes to try out the most difficult techniques!
Here you have the interview to get to know her a bit more.
When did you start knitting?
Last December I was watching TV and then I suddenly saw your knitting business and projects on the entrepreneur program of channel “Cuatro”. I never felt in the mood for knitting until I started! I discovered thanks to your nice and colorful yarns that creating your own clothing was awesome. It wasn’t until 6 months ago that I really tried to knit! My mother in law taught me how to do different stitches and how to use the needles properly. Since then I love your tutorials, videos and I also can’t resist buying knitting magazines, books and any item related to the knitting world. I’m really addicted!
What is your favorite stitch?
I really like to learn different stitches and improve every technique. Every time I learn a new stitch, I really do not know which one is my favorite. In general, I love Moss Stitch and also techniques that include relief. For bags I prefer Cross Stitch.
What is your favorite WAK design?
I think my favorite WAK design is the Sabrina Sweater. At the beginning, I wasn’t able to knit the little bobbles and the entire needlework was hard to do, but then I realized that it was a real challenge. The wine color fits great for this sweater, without forgetting the perfect form of the sleeves. I also need to say that my next challenge is going to be the Bossa Nova sweater, which is maybe going to be my favorite design at the end. From last summer season, my favorite design was definitely Carmen’s.
Which person, living or dead, would you like to meet?
I would have liked to get to know one of my grandmothers. She was my dad’s mum and everyone thinks that I really look like her. They call me “carabicha” in my little hometown due to her nickname. At least I have the nice nickname and a chain she left for me.
Which piece of work makes you the most proud?
Definitely a pair of bootees I knitted at the beginning. They were my first design and I gave them as a present for two girlfriends that had twins. I remember the bootees were easy to knit, but horrible to sew.
Do you have some advice for new knitters?
They should continue knitting and don’t give up because it really is a great thing to do. You can always improve your style and technique and it should be funny and not a “must do”. Just be creative and enjoy!
Apart from knitting, what other hobbies do you have?
I like reading a book before I go to bed, but honestly, it doesn’t last very long. My other hobbies are going to the cinema, walking, skating and riding a bike. During the winter I usually go snowboarding with my boyfriend.
Do you have any pending knitting challenge?
I always wanted to knit a pair of mittens. I will do it one day for sure, but I hope I’ll be able to knit them with circular needles or with 4 needles at one time! We will see in a while…
Which is your favorite place to knit?
My favorite time is to laying on my coach during the evening and knit a bit, even if I have only time for two rows. I also enjoy knitting on a roof, in the train, on the beach…
What is your favorite music group?
I like to listen to different styles of music but the rock of the 80’s is my cup of tea. I love Aerosmith since I was very young, so guess that’s my favorite one.
The best concert you have ever been?
It was the Aerosmith concert in Barcelona in 2010. I just found out they wanted to give a concert in that city during their tour and had to go due that last time they came to Spain, I was too young to buy a ticket.
What do you cook when you invite friends over?
Well, a hot meat stew is always a good choice. Isn’t it? LOL
A place you like to travel to?
I wish I could go to New Zealand to see the incredible landscapes from The Lord of the Rings. Green fields, large cliffs and beautiful beaches! I love nature.
How would you suggest knitting to people?
I believe that if you have stressful situations or you simple are having a hard time, knitting will help you to calm down and get the most out of your time, like for example a scarf. You can also make new friends, if you open an Instagram account and share your designs with nice pics. I really encourage you to give it a try!
