Hi knitters!
How did you learn to knit?
I’ve learned to knit when I was 8, during needlework at primary school. I remember I liked making something with yarn so much, the magic of creating your own ‘fabric’ with just some needles and yarn. It was an amazing discovery for me.
What is your favorite stitch?
I’m actually more of a crocheter than a knitter, but my favorite knitting stitch is the herringbone stitch. I have a thing for pattern and herringbone is one of my favorites!
Do you prefer to knit for yourself or do you prefer to give your knitting as a gift?
I do love to knit as a gift. Most people are so surprised when you give them something handmade. I always try to make something for babies of friends and family and last winter I made a bright red beanie for a friend who was very ill and she was so grateful. Giving brings so much joy!
I also like to make things for myself of course. I’m don’t make wearable knits very often but I love to make interior objects. I’ve designed quite a few stool covers, pillows, blankets in the last 10 years. I love to invent new patterns and create new possibilities with yarn and colour combinations.
This year I’ve organized two Cool Crochet Workshops in Marrakech and it’s amazing to work with fellow wool addicts. In April we had the first travel workshop in Marrakech with a very international group of crocheters. It was an amazing and awesome experience! I feel so happy to go back in October.
When is your favorite time of day to knit?
For me every time of day is perfect to crochet! On a sunny afternoon in the garden during summer, but also on the sofa on a cold winter evening. I bring my hook everywhere I go.
How did you hear about We Are Knitters?
Google I guess, I was looking for nice thick wool for a beanie and came upon your website and immediately fell in love with the big wool!
What is your favorite We Are Knitters kit?
I think it’s the Sienna beanie kit, within one hour you have the most brilliant beanie!
Last year I designed a harlequin blanket. It’s a multicolored blanket and I love it!
I’ve also made a harlequin baby blanket with Le Petite Wool.
What is the most difficult thing you’ve ever knitted?
A cardigan for my Barbie doll when I was little (way to ambitious) when I was staying at my Grandparents and my grandmother resolved it for me 🙂
Do you have any knitting tricks that you want to share with the knitters?
Always make a test sample, even though you want to start right away. If you keep all your samples, you can make a garland of it in the end!
What is your favorite city in the world?
Only one?! Impossible!
I’m a city person!
Barcelona is at the top of the list. We rented an apartment in Eixample for some weeks during summer holidays (twice) and it felt like we were living in Barcelona. Love everything about this city!
My favorite Dutch city is Amsterdam! and nearby Antwerp is only 1 hour’s drive from where we live.
This summer we’ve planned a road trip and we will visit Lyon, Girona, Barcelona(!) Arles, Marseille, Toulouse and Paris! I can’t wait.
What is your favorite song?
Siempre Me Quedará by Bebe. By chance I put the headphones on at Fnac in 2005 and Bebe’s voice gave me goosebumps all over my body!
I bought the CD Pafuera Telarañas and we played it all vacation. I even took a Spanish course to understand and sing the lyrics.
I also love the song Run by Snow Patrol, for the same goosebumps reason…
The best advice that you’ve ever received…
Do what you truly like to do. It was my father’s advice and he was true, you can always tell when it comes from the heart.
Do you have a favorite actor/actress?
Ewan McGregor! and I love actresses like Brigitte Bardot and Grace Kelly, not for their acting skills, but that style!
I once fell in love with Olivier Martinez in Unfaithful.
Which person, living or dead, would you like to meet?
Uhm,… Lenny Kravitz?
