Hi knitters!
When did you start knitting?
I started knitting in autumn/winter 2012. On my way to work I listened to a radio show and heard from a fashion blogger. So I looked at her blog and found a post about “weareknitters”. I was totally surprised about the concept and ordered two knitting kits straight away. The “Sienna Beanie” and the “Cuqui’s Beanie”. With the videos and a lot of remaking I finished the beanies just on time for winter. Since then I can’t just stop knitting!!!
What are your favorite stitches and techniques?
The Moss Stitch and the Bee Stitch are my absolute favorites, with the super chunky wool every piece will be very soft and cozy. I also love the 3D effect of these techniques.
Which WAK designs are your favorites?
Oh, that’s a difficult question. As you just know I’m in love with the beanies, but I’m also crazy about the “Juliet Tee” too. I started it in summer 2013, but haven’t finished it yet. So this summer I frogged the knitting and start all over again because the first try was unfortunately too small for me. I hope I will finish it very soon. But to be honest, there are so many other beautiful knitting kits like the “Pacific Sweater”, “Laguna Sweater”, “Santiago Beanie”, for me it’s almost impossible to have a special favorite one – i like them all.
What person, dead or alive, would you like to meet?
I would love to meet Charlotte Perriand. She was an amazing French architect and designer of the last century. I’m totally blown away from her work and thinking.
And alive… to have a coffee and talk with the WAK Team would be a wonderful idea.
What is the knitting creation that you are most proud of?
I’m very proud of my very first own designed beanie called the “Baltic sea Beanie”. I was born there and being on the beach, swimming and relax in the typical beach chair is like coming home for me. The beanie has some elements of the beach chair and with the aquamarine blue and white wool it’s perfect for a cold winter day on the beach.
What advice would you give to knitters that are learning now?
First, never stop trying!!!
Second, I would recommend to start with big needles (10mm-15mm), big yarn and the Stockinette Stitch. So you could check your ‘knit’ and ‘purl ‘and see every stitch. It’ll be easier to follow the pattern and the best of all you will get result very quickly. This will make you want more. So go for it!
Where’s the most amazing place you have traveled?
Oh… there are so many places around the globe I love. But as an architect with the interest of history and culture I was impressed by Brasília, the capital of Brazil. For good food, sun and nature I love travelling the east coast of Spain and for my heart and soul to the Baltic Sea.
Aside from knitting, what other interests do you have?
I’m addicted to travel. Taking the train, a plane, a car or just my bicycle and being off to new places makes me feel complete. Getting in touch with other cultures, languages, food and people is wonderful and exciting. Besides that I’m an avid reader, movie fan and coffee lover.
Do you have any challenges that you still haven’t dared to knit?
No, not really. I love the challenge to try everything and start again if it doesn’t fit – as you see with my Juliet Tee.
What music do you like to listen to?
I have different music for different activities. For example classic for reading and dreaming and electro-swing for running and being creative. But that’s not fix for me, it all depends of my mood. And I’m kind of old-fashioned – I love listing to the radio.
What is your favorite movie?
Easy – ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’
Any awesome concert that you’ve been to that you still remember?
Yes! It was my birthday present of a very good friend of mine. Agnes Obel – Open Air in Switzerland. Miraculous Evening!
What time and moment of day most inspire you to knit?
There is no special time of the day. Most of the ideas for knitting just pop up out of the blue and I sketch and write them down in my sketchbook or on whatever I have.
What is your stand-out dish when friends come over for dinner?
A good glass of wine is always a good idea, for appetizer salad with tomatoes, mozzarella, roasted sunflower seeds and basil. As a Main dish I would serve soup (depending on the time of the year) and last but not least as desert chocolate muffins with cream cheese inside.
