The box stitch, which is knitted with two needles, offers us the possibility to knit clothes with a very subtle texture. It is a really easy stitch that is good for beginners. It is reversible and its edges are straight so you can also use it to knit scarves or other accessories.

The number of stitches has to be a multiple of 4 +2. It is reversible.

Row 1: knit 2 stitches, *purl 2 stitches, knit 2 stitches*. Repeat from * to * until you have completed the row.

Row 2: purl 2 stitches, *knit 2 stitches, purl 2 stitches*. Repeat from * to * until you have completed the row.

Row 3: repeat row 2.

Row 4: repeat row 1.

Now repeat these 4 rows until you have reached the desired length.

What are you going to do now, that you know how to knit in box stitch? It would most certainly look really nice on a summer shirt knitted with our cotton 🙂

In our example we have used salmon pink colored cotton, but you can of course use any color you like, and 5MM wooden needles.

It doesn’t matter whether you are already an expert in this technique or whether you have just started to use it, we are always interested in seeing your own creations. You can share them with us on Instagram with the hashtag #weareknitters.
